Affirmations and Self Chats for Healing + Growth

Updated: Nov 17, 2021

Whether or not you want to call it an affirmation or a self-chat, sometimes all we need is a boost of positivity or encouragement to release ourselves from our critical self-judgment and negative thought cycles.

If you saw a little child having a tough time, I’m sure you could think of a hundred things to say to them to help them feel better in their moment of need. And to prevent that child from diving into bouts of sadness or despair on a regular basis, you could encourage overall self-confidence within that child by reminding them daily how awesome they are and how they can overcome anything that comes their way.

Sounds entirely logical right? So why is it that when we think of ‘telling ourselves’ these amazing things, we shy away from that. It can feel unnatural or ridiculous even. But really, shouldn’t our best cheerleader be ourselves? How can we reach for our dreams and tell the world how great we are if we can’t even look in the mirror and say it to ourselves?

Well, you can. It’s easy. And the thing is, no one has to take witness to this self-chat, just you. So go ahead, try some daily affirmations. Say all the things you would love to hear in this world and see what it can do for you.

Affirmations have a healing effect on our body, minds and souls. Sure, some skeptics may think it sounds a little woo woo – hippie dippie and is just an incredibly awkward and ineffective thing to do. But there is a fair amount of neuroscience to back this practice up, with many psychological theories supporting the positive effects that affirmations have on the brain and one’s self identity. So it’s not that woo-woo after all. This positive self-talk can actually help alter your subconscious. It is used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts or emotions. It’s extremely simple, yet entirely effective.

I would now like you to repeat after me…I AM AMAZING. I AM ENOUGH. I CAN HANDLE ANYTHING THAT COMES MY WAY.

Wonderful. You make a great parrot. But, really, how do you feel? You have just completed a mind-changing set of affirmations. See…quite simple. You just find an appropriate affirmation and repeat it to yourself silently or out loud. If you can do this in the mirror, your odds of creating this reality drastically increase. And yes, looking and talking to yourself in the mirror can be quite an adjustment, although life changing. No joke.

Here are a few affirmations to tell yourself on tough days. And click here for a free (no strings attached) printable to tape up beside your bathroom mirror so everyday there will be at least one person reminding you, how f*cking amazing you truly are.
